  • What’s the closing date for applications? 31st May each year.

  • What can I do to prepare for the walk? Don’t attempt to practice the full 40 miles. However walking the route in smaller sections is a definite advantage. Look on the website and try some of the leg warmer routes or simply strap your boots on and get out and walk as many reasonable distance walks as you can.

  • How difficult is it? It is an extreme type event. Some find the walk easy…..others do not. The distance of 40 miles will always be difficult to some degree. DO NOT assume it is easy because “you are only walking after all”. Blisters could be your downfall along with “Chaffing”. See “Joe’s Top 5 Tips” to help you through the day.

  • How will I know where to go? You will be issued with a very detailed route description prior to the walk. You will need to print a copy off and bring it with you on walk day. When you check in for the event, you will be asked to show that you have an individual copy with you. Please be aware – we may update the route on several occasions due to events beyond our control. The most accurate route description is the one we issue via email the week before the event.

  • What will I need to carry on the day? Carry a back or waist/hip pack with sufficient room for food and drink to be consumed between checkpoints (and maybe beyond – if you get lost.) There are 6 checkpoints along the route with plenty of hot & cold drinks, sandwiches, crisps, cakes & snacks. A hot bacon or sausage sandwich is available at the first checkpoint. Your bottle can be refilled at these service points. We have an experienced support team who will make sure you are fed & cheered on throughout the day.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A FOOD ALLERGY, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU CARRY YOUR OWN SUPPLIES; OR PLACE THESE AT THE CHECK POINTS BEFORE STARTING THE WALK. THESE MUST BE CLEARLY LABELED AND IN SEALED CONTAINERS.
You are required to bring with you at least one 500ml refillable water bottle.
PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ISSUE PLASTIC BOTTLES OF WATER AT CHECKPOINTS BUT WE WILL HAPPILY REFILL ANY WATER BOTTLE FOR YOU. Remember the first checkpoint is at around 11 miles.

  • What happens if it’s raining? Simple — you get wet! We plan long and hard towards walk day. It is not possible to postpone the walk simply because of inclement weather. We still walk; watch the weather & pack rain wear accordingly. Pack sun cream if it’s going to be sunny.

  • What medication will be available? NONE. Under NO circumstances will the support crews supply medication of any kind, including Ibuprofen, Aspirin or Paracetamol. Therefore, please carry any medication that you may require. First Aid support is available on the day and will question any medication that you may have taken.

  • How will I know the route? Maps & route descriptions are available to download from route section of the website. Please be aware that there may be changes to the route up to the day of the walk. A copy of the official route description will be emailed to you a week before the event. You will need to print off a copy and bring it with you on walk day. However, you are encouraged to walk sections of the route during your practice walks beforehand. Getting lost on a 40 mile walk can be very disheartening.

  • Do we get a certificate? You will receive a certificate on the day. We hold a presentation night in November to present the monies raised to the nominated charity. You will receive a badge at his event, which is usually held at Whitwell Community Centre.

  • What about the day after? The day after, don’t forget to join us on the Sunday from 1pm at the Royal Oak to share your walk stories & compare blisters!
